More details of the tragic death of Luisel Ramos, the Uruguayan 22 year old who sparked Madrid's ban on skinny models are starting to emerge.
The young model collapsed after stepping off the runway during Uruguay's fashion week and was rushed to hospital. The cause of death was ultimately determined as heart failure.
The aspiring model was told by her agent that if she lost significant weight she could make it big on the international scene. Two month before fashion week she started starving herself on a diet of leafy vegetables and diet cola.
In the days before her catwalk appearance she did not eat anything. Her body mass shrunk to a dangerous level. Sadly, although the incident is being widely discussed around the world very little is expected to change. The models in the Madrid shows looked as skinny as they always did.

Kate Moss, who for years aspired to be a fashion designer, will finally make her debut but at the low end of the business. Last week it was announced she signed a multimillion dollar multi-year contract with Topshop which is the British equivalent of H&M.  The collection is expected to launch in spring/summer 2007.
It is questionable how much design the British Super model will actually create instead of just allowing her name to be put on the collection.
Topshop wants to compete head on with global retailers such as H&M, Zara and Mango and has plans to open its first North American store in Manhattan in 2008.

Janet Jackson is up to her old titillating peek-a-boo tricks again. Her wardrobe malfunction during the 2004 Super Bowl turned out to be the best thing that could ever happen to her career.
It was greatest media event of the year and continued well into the following year. With a new album to promote she has suddenly started discussing the event after previously refusing to comment.
In an obvious move to recapture some of the media spotlight she says she is sorry she ever apologized. In the new So Excited music video she allows her naked breasts to be exposed for a quick peek.

Ambergris is the polite way of saying whale vomit and it is worth its weight in gold. An Australian couple recently lucked out when they stumped across a 25 pound lump on a South Australia's west coast beach which was worth well over 1 million dollars.
At first they had no idea what the sweet smelling smooth rock was so they brought it to a local rock expert who identified it. Ambergris is used to make perfume and sells for about $20 a gram. It is found all over the world where whales feed on squid. Their sharp peaks sometimes cause irritation and the sea mammals cough them up. It hardens from a fowl substance to a sweet smelling amber colored rock over time in the sea.
Its seductive qualities have been sought out for over a 1,000 years and it is also thought of as an aphrodisiac by some Oriental cultures.

A seven month pregnant Stella McCartney was rushed to a London hospital after complaining of stomach pains. When internal bleeding was discovered she was ordered to stay in bed until her child is born. If all goes well this will be her second child with husband Alasdhair Willis.

...San Antonio, Texas

A recent study conducted by researchers associated with a long term San Antonio Heart Study found that diet soda drinkers were more likely to be over weight than people who drank regular soda.
In addition it also found that heavier drinkers were literally heavier drinkers. The more diet soda a person consumed the more they tipped the scales.
The findings caught researchers by surprise but there seems to be some possible science behind the results. They speculated that people who drank more diet soda felt that they were already watching their weight so they tended to eat more. The San Antonio researchers cautioned that their results are preliminary.
