The Council of Fashion Designers of America decided to break ranks with Milan's total ban on super skinny models on the runway.
Instead of strict guidelines for licensing fashion models according to their body mass index and age, as recommended by the Italians, the CFDA chose a strategy of increasing awareness and sensitivity to the issue. “The feeling is that it is not realistic to dictate or impose rules on a huge fashion industry”,
a spokesperson said.
The group's recommendations will be sent to designers next week in anticipation of the Fall/Winter 2007 fashion shows which begin in New York on Feb 2.

As traditional retailers JC Penny and Kohl's have been losing business to more fashion savvy upstarts such as Target and H & M who have been exploiting established designer names for several seasons.

A number of experts have expressed alarm over anorexia and bulimia support sites which claim to reach out and help those inflicted with the disorders. In reality they actually glamorize and promote the inflictions.
Suspect websites often feature advice for becoming thinner alongside glamorous images of slim celebrities and models. Some professionals have gone as far as to accuse the “pro-ana” sites of being accomplices to murder for encouraging an extremely dangerous lifestyle.
They want to see them immediately shut down by Internet providers.
The mostly young women who visit these sites have little understanding of how harmful their behaviors can be. Amanda Hills, a psychologist and counsellor at the National Centre for Eating Disorders in Britain warned, "Seeking treatment is the way forward but these sites actually seek to keep people in their illness by giving them tips and all sorts of things that they might not have thought of themselves."

The role will be based on her real life. “They plan to make my character a loony who loves to shop and can't find a man. It's totally whack and that's great for me.”
