The man often thought of as John Galliano’s spiritual twin and closest associate died of an apparent heart attack alone in his Paris apartment at the age of 38.
Steven Robinson worked with Galliano for over two decades when he started sewing buttons for the designer at the age of 17. Born in Britain he attended at the Epsom School of Art and Design.
He met Gallianio when he went to Paris with a friend for what was supposed to be a week. It was an adventure that lasted almost 20 years and saw him became head of Christian Dior and John Galliano’s studios.
Robinson shunned the spotlight and preferred to remain behind the scenes. Typically he could be found backstage at a Galliano show with straight pins in his mouth putting the final touches on a look.
"Working with him has been the greatest adventure and privilege of my professional career. No one can, or will, ever replace him," Galliano said. "Steven has been my rock, my dearest friend and not someone that was meant to ever leave me. He was my family.”
