Announced
by Mayor Gavin Newsom, he proclaimed the dates August 26-August 29 2004
to be the first fashion week in San Francisco.
"Celebrating
San Francisco as a fashion destination pays a much-deserved tribute to
our many stylish residents and provides a high-profile and exciting platform
for artists, designers and fashion students residing and working in our
fair city," said Mayor Newsom.
Taking place at the Palace of Fine Arts
Theatre in the heart of San Francisco, some of the designers being showcased
include established designers Rock & Republic, Fornarina, Liz Bang Swimwear,
Joseph Domingo, Hieros, Loungewear Betty, Christina Hurvis Couture, Colleen
Quen Couture, Saffron Rare Threads and Starr D. Also by promoting a student
designer showcase show which will feature designs by students of the Art
Institute of California, will help develop the fashion talent in the Bay
area.
For the public, a "Fashion Week Boutique" will provide shoppers
with access to some of the hottest styles available from more than 50
jewelry and accessory designers. San Francisco Fashion Week sponsors include
NARS Cosmetics, Vespa SF, Stonestown, Guess Eyewear, W San Francisco Hotel,
Zink Magazine, SF Weekly, San Francisco Magazine, SF Station, POM Wonderful,
and Offset Music.
"Intended to unify the city's growing fashion community,
San Francisco Fashion Week will provide an innovative platform for talented,
emerging designers to gain exposure and showcase their abilities to the
media, trade and consumers," said Erika Gessin, founder of Mystery Girl
Productions, the exclusive producer of San Francisco Fashion Week. "The
week-long series of events will infuse fashion, art, music and culture
San Francisco STYLE!"
